Today is International Dance Day: One famous Silver Swan says others should give ballet a go.

The Duchess of Cornwall reveals, that she and a group of friends have taken ballet up.

In a video call, with Dame Darcey Busssell, the president of the Royal Academy of Dance and Angela Rippon it’s Silver Swans ambassador, to mark International Dance Day, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, let on that she has pulled together a group of similarly aged friends to as she puts it to “ clatter around and when we’re in London we do it once a week and it makes all the difference.” It as her attempt as she put it to “stop seizing up”

The Duchess, who is also vice-patron of the academy said that when she saw a Silver Swans class she said “I couldn’t believe how good everybody was. They were so impressive!”

The academy’s Silver Swans program encourages the over 55s to get involved and take up ballet and whilst we are currently in lockdown, they are providing free online classes.

Explaining on the call that whilst she had always loved dancing, she had never done ballet but “it doesn’t matter whether you’ve done ballet or not. It’s something that will make you feel better. It gives you a certain amount of confidence in yourself.“

> I’m very, very much a beginner and probably always remain a beginner, but I do feel that after a year, or 18 months, of doing it that maybe I’ve improved a little bit…

“I think we’ve all got to keep active. If we don’t, we’ll just seize up and we won’t be able to get out of bed in the morning. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 10 minutes or 20 minutes, it just starts off the day.” Sage words for all us Boldies.
